First Impression
You ever wanted to try voice acting? Now you can! – Well, kind of. Seiyuu Danshi is a BL game which sets you up as a prospectic (famous) voice actor. Whether you succeed or not is up to the time and energy you invest in your skills and your ability to read the mood of the characters and scenes you’re casted for. Depending on your time management you might even find moments inbetween to flirt with your fellow voice actors, your boss or another of the seven love interests.
The game features a pretty unique setting and promises some light-hearted fun. Gameplay is a mixture between dating sim, stat raising game and visual novel. It even has some light rpg elements (as in: you can take on quests from NPCs and get a reward for successfully completing them). There are a lot of different features in this game. A few examples are the aforementioned ‘quest system’, a dress-up game and interactive sex scenes. And, of course, the voice actor auditions.
The demo that’s currently available doesn’t feature any dating scenes with the potential love interests, but the characters appear to differ quite a bit in their personalities. The voice acting parts are already quite a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to doing more of them. Though the game is about voice acting, it will only be partially voiced once fully released. Admittedly the game seems huge and there are a lot of NPCs implemented in the demo already. Also the various intonations of the audition lines alone would be quite a feat to realize for an independent developer. It will remain to be seen how the partial voice acting turns out, however.

A game with many different aspects besides the ‘date simulation’ part needs a lot of work in general. As it seems to me now, not every feature is given the time it might need – which, again, is to be expected if the game is to be released any time soon (currently planned for summer 2018). In my case, I find the CGs a little lacking so far. Because there are going to be a lot of them in the game it seems as if their quality is going to suffer a bit. Not that they’re plain bad, but I’m sure they could be better. I can only judge by the demo and the screenshots I’ve seen, of course, so the quality may not be reflective of the final product.

As this is not a pure visual novel I don’t expect to see a deeper overall plot in the full game. Some of the characters in the demo could have interesting stories of their own, though, and I’m curious to see how these ‘sub-plots’ might turn out. The NPCs also seem quite fun, some of them pretty unique (though I’m not sure how much interaction there will be with each of them).

It’s a bit of a bummer that the main protagonist is not too interesting or likable (to me). But all of the gameplay elements wrapped into one larger package and the general ‘quest for voice actor fame’ still promise a fun(ny) BL game experience, one to which I’m looking forward to.
